Skating skirts

"'You can rent those darling little skating skirts,' old Sally said, 'Jeannette Cultz did it last week.'
That's why she was so hot to go. She wanted to see herself in one of those little skirts that just come down over their butt and all."
When Holden meets with Sally she suggest that they go skating at Radio City. It turns out that the girls can also rent skating skirts a long with the skates. Holden believes that the only reason Sally wants to go skating is so she can rent one of those skirts so everyone can see her butt.
I honestly think that while yeah Holden wants her to do that more than he thinks, he can't help but be a little disgusted by it. To me, as an ice skater, the little skirts are part of the job, but I hardly ever wear them. I can get annoyed by them, I always feel judged when wearing them. I feel like people can't get passed the fact that I'm wearing one, that they think I'm a skank or slut. I think Holden see's that Sally wants the attention, everybody to be watching her, to show off.  But he's also a guy, he can't help but give her the attention that she wants. To me it says that as much as we want to think that Holden is different, that he's not like the rest of us, he really is.
